Dust-free, fully enclosed, self propelled shot-blast machines are the most popular concrete preparation machines used in the UK at the moment. They are an environmentally friendly method of removing dirt, old coatings, thin epoxy coatings and texturing power floated factory floors, be they asphalt or concrete. Our machines because they are modern, are probably the quietest available, therefore do not cause excessive noise pollution with regard to Health and Safety Regulations.
The actual cleaning of the concrete floor is achieved by the impact of tiny steel balls thrown by a rotating blast wheel at high velocity. The blast wheel of our machines rotate at 9000rpm.The size of the steel shot can be varied to alter the texture of the finished floor. As the steel shot scours the concrete floor it rebounds with the contaminants that have been removed into a vacuum chamber, where the shot is recycled and the debris and dust is sucked to a collection hopper to be deposited later to an on-site skip.
Production rates depend on so many factors but we can average blast about 1500 sq/metres in a steady day, although we have blasted in excess of 4000 sq/metres to a medium blast on new concrete, in a long day because the job had to be done.
