By utilising different flails on the rotating drums, different jobs, textures and profiles can be obtained. Output metres is considerably less than shot-blasting ,probably about a third of shot blasting but for removing thick flaky paint coatings and preparing oily floors they cannot be beaten.
General purpose Tungsten Carbide Tipped (TCT) cutters are used for heavy duty concrete texturing, scabbling, planing and grooving applications. The removal of brittle coatings is one of the most popular uses.
Milling cutters tipped with tungsten carbide are efficient for the removal of thermoplastic road/runway markings.
Beam cutters for lighter applications are available, these can be used if the floor is too wet for blasting.
Active Floor Prep often use scabblers prior to shot-blasting on bad floors. They tend to be nosier in operation than blasters so operators should wear ear defenders.
